Wes Partin, Principal

Dear Buccaneer Family:

Welcome to the 2020-201 school year! I would like to introduce myself as the principal at Southside Junior High School.

Being a Southside alumni and community member, I can tell you that I understand what all of your students have been through. The “Great Flood of 2016” has definitely changed our lives. For the time being, we are making “The Boardwalk” our home as we look forward to the future.

We are presently moving forward on building a brand new 21st century school that will serve the students of Southside Junior High School. It will be built at our original location on Pete’s Hwy. We are now in the bidding / construction phase and are hopeful we break ground Summer 2020. We have a completion date in the summer of 2022.I would like to thank our board members and central office for helping make this a reality.

As we enter this school year, we will continue as a staff to set high expectations for our students in regards to academic performance within the classroom, participation in extra-curricular activities, and becoming responsible citizens in our school and in the community.

I am asking each student to make a commitment to having Buc Pride by being active participants in their learning and acting responsibly as an individual within our learning community. Doing so will enable all Bucs to have a successful and enjoyable school year.

Junior High is an exciting time of change. Increased workload, changing classes, and engaging in new social endeavors can be challenging.

Parents, please make time to:

Ask your student(s) specific questions about their time at school. For example, “What was the most interesting thing you did in math class today?” or “Tell me about your science experiment?”

Use the Parent Portal early and often. The Portal will give you relevant information regarding your child’s performance on their homework, a test or quiz, as well as their attendance. Your interest and concern in their school progress will motivate them to do their best.

We are looking forward to a positive, upbeat school year at Southside. I encourage all students to connect with our school. Be reminded that you do not have to follow the crowd. Be yourself. Even when no one is watching, do the right thing. Parents, please help us by reinforcing school expectations at home. With your help, Southside will continue to be a school community in which every person feels respected, valued, encouraged, and challenged to achieve at the highest levels.

I am excited for the opportunity to work with you and your student to provide a positive and safe learning environment that supports student success. Once again, welcome to Southside Junior High School!

Go Bucs!!!!
